Corinne Foxx is an ambassador for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and in a recent interview she spoke out about how having a famous father “affected her mental health.”

I felt like people were always looking at me, were always expecting me to turn out a certain way. Because of that, I went the opposite realm.

I became very focused on perfection and always being in this very cookie cutter type of way, and that put a lot of pressure and anxiety on me to uphold this standard of never messing up.

Corinne said the pressure “affected her mental health” and it is something she is still “working through to unlearn those behaviors and those patterns.”

She said online bullying contributed to her anxiety in her youth, and as a result, she has been in therapy since she was 14-years-old.

A lot of people assume things about you, assume that you don’t have your own struggles, and of course I’ve been incredibly, incredibly privileged..

I’m aware of that, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not a human being. It doesn’t mean that I don’t have my own past and things I’ve went through and then also just genetic predispositions to things that are out of my control.

Corinne Foxx is now a 27-year-old professional DJ who co-stars with her father, Jamie Foxx, on the tv show “Beat Shazam.

She decided to speak out about her anxiety in honor of May’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

Corinne recently shared her “toolkit” for combating anxiety in a recent IG post.

As most of you know, I’m an ambassador for @namicommunicate (National Alliance on Mental Illness) ???? I was just doing an interview about mental health and was asked about my “toolkit” for combatting anxiety and I brought up this note in my phone.

I wrote this note in 2016, when I was experiencing really bad anxiety. I’ve used it over the years as a reminder/guidebook for how I combat and manage my own anxiety. I’ve sent this note to friends going through breakups, having hard times, etc. But I realized today that I’ve never shared it on my feed before.

Disclaimer: I am not an expert or a doctor. But these “tools” have each played an instrumental role in caring for my mental health and wellbeing.

May is #mentalhealthawarenessmonthand I hope this note finds someone who needs a little guidance and benefits them as it has for me throughout the years ????

We commend Corinne Foxx for using her personal struggles with anxiety to help others.
