Another gut-wrenching story out of the Bronx…
18-year-old Robert Williams accidentally shot himself dead on Saturday while playing with a friend’s gun – just one block away from his home in Soundview.
Cops say Robert was playing with the gun when he stumbled and blasted himself in the chest around 5 p.m. Dozens of his friends immediately rushed to his aid. He died Jacobi Medical Center.
His mother, Kimberly Hatwood, said her son was smart and loved by many.
Everybody loves him — he’s loved all over the place. From old to young, babies. Everybody. He was a smart boy.
He was just an energetic kid. When you were around him, you were bound to laugh and have a good time.
He walks in the door, he attracts. The attention goes straight on him. I don’t want to call him a clown – but he was a character.
It shouldn’t have been like this. My son had a plan for the future. He wanted to be something. He wanted to make his mother proud.
Robert Williams was set to enroll at SUNY Canton upstate in August after taking a gap year to work and save money before starting college.
My condolences and prayers to the Williams family and all who loved Robert.
