The family of Keith Lamont Scott has released cell phone video captured by his wife, which shows the moments leading up to his fatal shooting by Charlotte, North Carolina police.
Scott’s shooting death sparked outrage and days of protests in Charlotte.
In the video, released on Friday, Rakeyia Scott, pleaded with police not to shoot her husband by telling them:
Don’t shoot him. He has no weapon. He doesn’t have a gun. He has a TBI (traumatic brain injury). He’s not going to do anything to you guys. He just took his medicine.
Police are heard yelling, “Drop the gun,” in the background.
Rakeyia then chastised Keith telling him:
Keith, don’t let them break the windows; come on out the car. Keith! Don’t do it. Keith, get out the car. Keith! Keith, don’t you do it. Don’t you do it. Keith! Keith! Keith!
Gunfire is heard and Rakeyia Scott yells, “Did you shoot him? Did you shoot him? He better not be f**kin dead.”
Police claim they shot Keith Lamont Scott because he failed to heed commands to drop his gun. His family says he never had a gun.
CNN is reporting a source close to the investigation claims police recovered a weapon with Scott’s fingerprints, DNA, and blood on it.
In the words of Chuck D, “Can’t truss it.”
