Detective Brett Hankison, one of three police officers who killed Breonna Taylor while serving a no-knock search warrant, will be terminated.
The news comes four months after the 26-year-old EMT was killed in her home by Hankison, Jon Mattingly, and Myles Cosgrove, who were serving the warrant at the wrong residence.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer announced Chief Rob Schroeder has initiated the termination proceedings for Brett Hankison.
According to his pre-termination letter, Hankison violated two standard operating procedures: obedience to rules and regulations and use of deadly force.
Schroeder noted, “Based upon my review, these are extreme violations to our policies. I find your conduct a shock to the conscience.”
Hankison also showed no indifference to the value of human life when he fired 10 rounds into Breonna Taylor’s apartment through a patio door and window that were covered. He did not verify there was an immediate threat on the other side.
Schroeder also wrote Hankison was reckless as the rounds he fired went into a neighbor’s apartment.
You have never been trained by the Louisville Metro Police Department to use deadly force in this fashion. Your actions have brought discredit upon yourself in the department. Your conduct has severely damaged the image of our Department we have established within our community. The result of your actions seriously impedes the Department’s goal of providing the citizens of our city with the most professional law enforcement agency possible. I cannot tolerate this type of conduct by any member of the Louisville Metro Police Department. Your conduct demands your termination.
Schroeder forgot to mention Brett Hankison is a murderer.
I am impatiently awaiting the termination of Mattingly and Cosgrove as well as charges against all three of the killers who took Breonna’s life senselessly.
