BET issues apology for rape tweet

BET collected the When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong Award today…

The network issued an apology today after their official Twitter account fired off an tactless and insensitive tweet about Dr. Luke allegedly raping Katy Perry.

The tweet read:

Hide ya wife, hide ya kids, they raping er’body out here! ALLEGEDLY! #BETBreaks

After the Twitterverse dragged them through the streets of social media, BET deleted the tweet and issued the following apology:

BET Networks does not condone making light of sexual assault. We apologize for the post, which should have never been written.

We have deleted the tweet and are conducting an internal investigation to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Hide ya background checks, find ya resumes. Cause somebody’s gettin’ fired!
