Ballerina Misty Copeland To Be Honored With Her Very Own Barbie Doll
It was less than a year ago, that Misty Copeland made history as the first African-American female principal dancer at the American Ballet Theater. Now, the Prima ballerina will be honored with a Barbie doll in her likeness.
Lisa McKnight, general manager and senior vice president of Barbie said Misty was “at the center of a cultural conversation around how women continue to break boundaries.” McKnight added, “As a brand, we want to honor women, like Misty, who are inspiring the next generation of girls to live out their dreams. We know role play often leads to real ‘play’ in life and we’re thrilled to celebrate Misty with her very own doll.”
For Misty, it’s a dream come true.
I always dreamed of becoming an ABT ballerina and through Barbie I was able to play out those dreams early on.
It’s an honor to be able to inspire the next generation of kids with my very own Barbie doll.
Misty Copeland’s doll is part of Barbie’s Sheroes collection which also includes movie director Ava DuVernay, actresses Emmy Rossum and Zendaya, and singer Trisha Yearwood.
Congratulations to Misty!
May the force be with you if you’re trying to get your hands on one of these dolls.
