Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms advised fans and groupies to not travel to Atlanta during NBA All-Star weekend due to the pandemic.

She also advised bars and clubs not to promote events around the All-Star Game.

Under normal circumstances, we would be extremely grateful for the opportunity to host the NBA All-Star Game. But this is not a typical year. I have shared my concerns related to public health and safety with the NBA and Atlanta Hawks.

We are in agreement that this is a made-for-TV event only, and people should not travel to Atlanta to party. There will be no NBA-sanctioned events open to the public, and we strongly encourage promoters, clubs, bars, etc. not to host events in the city related to this game.

Mayor Bottoms has spoken, but I’m sure Lou Williams’ favorite wing spot will still be popping All-Star Weekend.

Originally the All-Star game was scheduled to be held in Indianapolis, but due to the pandemic, Indianapolis was scrapped for Atlanta.

As if Atlanta is not in the pandemic as well.

The NBA has decided to condense the event into one day, with all of the events scheduled for February 7th, to include the skills challenge, the 3-point shootout, the dunk contest, and the All-Star game.

Lebron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Giannis Antetokounmpo have all voiced their opinion in opposition to having an All-Star game this year due to COVID-19 concerns, but the NBA is all about that revenue.

If your in Atlanta or plan to come to Atlanta for All-Star Weekend please be safe.
