Donald Trump’s Involvement:

Rocky said he was sleeping when he was alerted that Donald Trump took on his case.

I’m sleeping in my halfway dream. I heard my name. I kind of opened my eyes and closed my eyes again and then they said my name again. And I opened my eyes and I’m like, ‘Yo, what the f*ck?

The “they” Rocky is referring to is former President Donald Trump, who said:

Many, many members of the African American community have called me — friends of mine — and said, ‘Could you help? So I personally don’t know ASAP Rocky but I can tell you that he has tremendous support from the African American community in this country … I have been called by so many people asking me to help ASAP Rocky.

To which Rocky responded to in the film, “Aw sh*t!.. Look like I might do a bid.”

The “so many people” that Trump is referring to is Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

Kim and Ye’s Involvement:

In the film Kim says her and Kanye notified Trump of Rocky’s situation.

Rocky and Kanye have been friends a long time and I’ve been doing a lot of justice reform and bill reform with that administration, So I was compelled to reach out to the White House and call my contacts over there to see what we can really do.

Rocky’s Release:

Rocky received a suspended sentence from the Swedish court, and he was allowed to fly home. He returned five months later to perform in the country.

As time passed, reports serviced that the Trump administration was upset that Rocky and his team did not properly thank him for his support.

According to a 2019 Yahoo! report, Trump surrogate Darrell Scott said he told Rocky’s management that all he wanted was a thank you.

The White House didn’t ask for anything. There were no conditions attached, but my condition … was that all I’m asking for you guys to do is say thank you.

Near the end of the film, ASAP Rocky admits that he felt Trump’s involvement made things a little worse.

It was a chess move and they tried to strong arm a lot. “n reality, I had no problem saying thank you to the man, especially if he helped me. That’s the narrative they pushin’: That he got me out. And he didn’t free me. If anything, he made it a little worse.

The film is directed by Architects and it premiered Sunday night at the Tribeca Film Festival.

There is no official word on a release date.
