The city of Columbus, Ohio has reached a $10 million settlement with the family of 47-year-old police shooting victim Andre Hill.

Hill was shot to death by former officer Adam Coy on December 22, 2020.

Police were responding to a nonemergency disturbance call about a vehicle turning on and off.

Andre Hill was unarmed and exiting his garage when Coy, who conveniently didn’t have his body camera turned on, fatally shot him.

Adam Coy was fired within a week of the incident and has been indicted on charges of murder, felonious assault, and reckless homicide.

He is currently free after posting $1 million bond.

The $10 million settlement with Andre Hill’s family is the largest in the city’s history.

City Attorney Zach Klein said:

We understand that because of this former officer’s actions, the Hill family will never be whole. No amount of money will ever bring Andre Hill back to his family, but we believe this is an important and necessary step in the right direction.

In addition to the settlement, the city has also agreed to rename the gym located in the Brentnell Community Center, the Andre Hill Gymnasium by the end of 2021.

At the end of the day Andre Hill’s life was priceless.
