Amir Junaid Muhadith, the rapper formerly known as Bad Boy rapper “Loon,” has been released from prison early due to COVID-19.

In 2013, Amir (real name Chauncey Hawkins) pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute 1 kilo or more or heroin.

He was sentenced to 168 months (14 years) in prison followed by 4 years of supervised release. Amir was scheduled to be released in August 2021.

On Wednesday, US District Judge Terrence Boyle converted his sentence to timed served, finding the coronavirus was an “extraordinary and compelling” reason for him to be released.

According to court documents, Chauncey Hawkins is 45-years-old and he suffers from latent tuberculosis and has suffered multiple bouts of bronchopneumonia, acute bronchitis, and laryngopharyngitis making him extremely high risk amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

On June 2, 2020, Amir, with the help of his friend, Weldon Angelos, filed a 34-page motion for compassionate release and it was granted.

An official statement was released on the Amir Junaid Muhadith’s Instagram page:

Welcome home, Loon …ahem…Amir!
