2016 Teen Choice Awards Addresses Gun Violence
During the 2016 Teen Choice Awards, the giggle and shenanigans were set aside for a very serious moment addressing gun violence.
Alton Sterling‘s son, Cameron, and several other teens from Dallas, San Bernardino, Sandy Hook, and Orlando, who have been affected by gun violence, joined Jessica Alba and Ne-Yo on stage to call for change.
Each teen announced their name and the name of their loved one lost to gun violence in the heartbreaking segment.
Jessica explained, “Tonight we stand together with these teens, united in our call for peace and an end to this violence,” Alba explained. “Now, more than ever, we need to stop, feel and ask, ‘What’s Going On?'”
Ne-Yo performed a touching rendition of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On?”
Following his performance, he and Jessica asked everyone in the room to take out their phones, snap a picture of the teens on stage and hashtag it with #StopTheViolence.
