Akon Arrested In Georgia After Tesla Cybertruck Mishap
Akon found himself in an unexpected situation last week after being arrested in DeKalb County, Georgia.
According to jail records, the 52-year-old singer, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, was taken into custody by the Chamblee Police Department on November 7 following an outstanding warrant from Roswell.
The Tesla Cybertruck Trouble
It all started back in September when Roswell police found Akon’s Tesla Cybertruck stranded on the side of the road with a dead battery.
The officer on the scene offered to help by calling a tow truck, but things took a turn when they discovered the vehicle had no active insurance on file.
When the officer ran Akon’s license, they learned it had been suspended since January 2023 due to a failure to appear in court.
While Akon was able to later provide proof of insurance, that suspended license landed him in legal hot water.
Booked, Released, And Back To Business
Akon was booked into the DeKalb County Jail around November 7 and spent about six hours behind bars before being released.
The warrant originated in Roswell, and confusion about his custody status followed, with both Roswell and Smyrna police confirming he was not currently being held in their jails.
The five-time Grammy-nominated artist is best known for early 2000s hits like “Locked Up,” “Lonely,” and “Smack That.”
Ironically, his breakout single “Locked Up” has taken on a whole new meaning in this situation.
In recent years, Akon has been focusing on philanthropic work, including efforts to bring solar power to African countries, while still occasionally dropping new music.

While the incident appears to be a minor legal hiccup, it definitely raised eyebrows among fans and followers.
Neither Akon nor his legal team has publicly commented on the arrest yet.
