Ahmaud Arbery's Mother Wanda Cooper-Jones Rejects Federal Plea Deal, Asks For Max Sentence For His Killers

Shortly before the sentencing hearing on Friday (January 7) federal prosecutor asked Ahmaud Arbery’s mother if she would consider a plea deal for her son’s killers.

The agreement would have put Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael, and William “Roddie” Bryan in federal prison for 30 years in addition to whatever sentence the judge hands down.

Wanda Cooper-Jones promptly rejected the offer according to her attorney S. Lee Merritt

She rejected that offer because we believe that today the state will move forward with life sentences without the possibility of parole, and we think that’s the appropriate sentence.

At the sentencing hearing, Wanda asked the judge to give the men who callously and remorselessly killed her son the maximum sentence under Georgia law.

Watch a portion of her testimony below.
