9-Year-Old Boy Charged With 5 Counts Of First-Degree Murder Over Illinois House Fire

A 9-year-old Illinois boy has been charged with five counts of first-degree murder, two counts of arson and one count of aggravated arson in connection to a devastating mobile home fire in April that killed two adults and three children.

The April 6 fire killed a 1-year-old, two 2-year-olds, a 34-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman at the Timberline Mobile Home Park near the village of Goodfield.

Woodford County State’s Attorney Greg Minger admitted the decision to charge someone so young was not an easy one.

It was a heavy decision. It’s a tragedy, but at the end of the day, it’s charging a very young person with one of the most serious crimes we have.

But I just think it needs to be done at this point, for finality.

The 9-year-old will be appointed an attorney and may be subjected to a bench trial in front of a judge.

If convicted, the unnamed child will face a maximum of 5 years probation.
