Via The Trentonian:

The 5-year-old boy, a student at the International Academy of Trenton on the 700 block of Bellevue Avenue, was playing with a white packet that his teacher thought was a candy wrapper, police spokesman Lt. Varn said.

The teacher told the student to put the packet away. When the student pulled it back out, the teacher confiscated it and realized it was a packet of heroin. She then looked in his lunchbox and found 29 more packets of the potent street drug which has led to countless overdose deaths across the nation.

The student was taken to Capital Health Medical Center in Hopewell, where he was tested and came back negative for opioids, Varn said. The boy is in good health, the police spokesman said.

Detectives are investigating to find out where the child got the drugs.

Authorities would not divulge if the child was returned to his parents or if he’s in the custody of child services.

An investigation is underway to find out where the boy got the drugs.
