5 Things We Learned About Dru Hill
Dru Hill, one of my all-time fave R&B groups, is in Atlanta for Saturday Soul Series’ Battle of the Bands show at the Fox Theater on September 2.
The epic R&B show will also feature K-Ci & JoJo, Next and Tony! Toni! Toné!
Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to chat with Jazz and Nokio of Dru Hill to get the scoop on the group, what they have in the works, and what fans can expect from the show.
Read 5 things I learned about Dru Hill from our fun convo below:
On the secret to their longevity:
Jazz: “Over the years, you’ve seen us go through the good and the bad, but we all have music in our DNA. And we’re brothers.”
On the current state of R&B music:
Nokio: “Hip Hop has has a huge influence on R&B music. These younger guys aren’t making heartfelt loves songs because they haven’t truly experienced love…the hurt…the pain of a relationship. They are making music about what they know.”
On a Dru Hill biopic:
Nokio: “Maybe somewhere down the road, but we’re not trying to on the biopic trend.”
Jazz: “We’re actually working on a book about the group. We gotta get folks reading!”
On new music:
Nokio: “We’re in the studio working on a new album.”
Jazz: “Yes, and we’ve got a Christmas project on the way!”
On what fans can expect from the Battle of the Bands show:
Nokio: Singing…(laughs)
Jazz: It’s going to be a fun, energy-filled show, with lots of great music!
