There’s an amazing new sketch comedy show in town and it’s called, “Sherman’s Showcase!”
“Sherman’s Showcase” travels through time via music and clips drawn from the forty-year library of a legendary (fictional) musical variety show.
The series is inspired by shows like “Solid Gold”, “Soul Train” and “Laugh-In”.

Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin are the creative geniuses behind “Sherman’s Showcase,” which is executive produced by John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co.
I recently had the opportunity to speak with Diallo about “Sherman’s Showcase” and he said:
The show is bonkers!
I think one of the things that I like about the show is we decided early on – I used to love that show ‘Community’ and I used to like how they would have stories happening in the background of shots. If you really paid attention, those things would always pay off.
For me, the idea that Sherman was traveling through time and we never addressed the fact that he wasn’t aging up or down until the final episode…I wanted to give viewers a big pay off.
After binging the entire first season of “Sherman’s Showcase,” I feel I am totally equipped to give you 5 reasons why you must watch this show.

5 Reasons Why You MUST Watch ‘Sherman’s Showcase’
- “Sherman’s Showcase” is “
Blackity Black!” This show is the epitome of black culture unfiltered and heavy on the Lawrys. - If you loved and grew up watching “Soul Train” and “Solid Gold,” this show is going to give you a severe case of nostalgia along with some good ole
funkalicious music that pays homage to some of our most beloved recording artists. - “Sherman’s Showcase” is hilarious! I literally laughed out loud while watching the show to the point where I almost aspirated on my own saliva! (True story)
- The show is insane! “Sherman’s Showcase” has everything from a man who can tap dance with his mouth to a Funk-A-Tron 2000 robotic dancer. There is an abundance of side-splitting “WTF” moments!
- The celebrity guest appearances are epic! John Legend, Ne-Yo, Bresha Webb, Vic Mensa, and Morris Day are just a few of the notables who make their way to “Sherman’s Showcase” to indulge in the shenanigans!
“Sherman’s Showcase” premieres on IFC on Wednesday, July 31 at 10p.
