Ryan Murphy, the executive producer of the incredible show based on the ball culture world, gave the scoop on “Pose” season 2 at Television Critics Association press tour panel on Friday.
Season 2 will begin in 1989 and end in 1990 when Madonna‘s hit single, “Vogue” was released.
Ryan said, “That song took something that was unknown in the culture and made it mainstream, and this season will be about our characters, how their community was made known to the world.”
Bianca & Pray Tell
Season 2 will focus heavily on the HIV-positive diagnosis of two main characters, Bianca (MJ Rodriguez) and Pray Tell (Billy Porter).
“There is a responsibility to a cold, hard truth, and I think we will see it on the show,” Murphy said. “We haven’t gotten there yet, but the second season will very much be Blanca and Pray Tell’s HIV experience.”
At this time, haven’t decided how far they will go in the steep decline of either character’s health, but they “want to be truthful about it because it was a very dark time.”
The writer’s room for “Pose” season 2 will begin the second week of September and they are hoping to “dig deeper in AIDS activism.”
Creator Steven Canals shared that he loves “that our show is grounded socio-politically in the late-’80s” and would love to “dig deeper into AIDS activism” in the second season.
“Pose” is such a wonderful show and I’m looking forward to the new season.
