18 NBA veterans have been indicted and arrested in Manhattan federal court in an alleged health insurance scam that defrauded the league’s benefit plan by nearly $4 million.

According to federal prosecutors, ex-NBA player Terrence Williams “orchestrated” the scheme and recruited other players in the health plan by offering fake invoices.

Williams allegedly received $230,000 in kickbacks.

Alan Anderson, Tony Allen, Shannon Brown, Williams Bynum, Melvin Ely, Christopher Douglas-Roberts, Anthony Wroten, Milton Palacio, Sebastian Telfair, Darius Miles, Ruben Patterson, Eddie Robinson, Gregory Smith, Glen “Big Baby” Davis, Antoine Wright, Charles Watson Jr., and Jamario Moon are among the NBA veterans who are facing charges of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud, as well as aggravated identity theft.

Tony’s wife, Desiree Allen, is also charged in the indictment.

16 of the indicted individuals were taken into custody late Thursday morning.

Prosecutors are seeking “any and all property, real or personal, that constitutes or is derived, directly or indirectly” from the alleged fraud in restitution. If any of that property can’t be acquired for whatever reason, the U.S. government says it will seek forfeiture of any other property of the defendants up to the same value.
