It is with a broken heart that I report 13-year-old Kashala Francis has died after being jumped by her classmates while walking home from school.
Kashala, who was a student at Attucks Middle School, died on Wednesday morning at Texas Children’s Hospital.
Doctors discovered she had a tumor in the back of her head that may have been exacerbated by the fight she was involved in.
Kashala’s death is being investigated as a homicide pending the results of an autopsy.
The fight took place last Thursday afternoon, according to Kashala’s mother, Mamie Jackson. She said two girls jumped her daughter and one of them kicked her in the head.
She came home with bruises on her face but insisted she was okay.
By Saturday, Kashala appeared to become delusional while spending the night at a relative’s home. On Sunday, she woke up complaining of a severe headache and lost consciousness.
She was rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital where she slipped into a coma.
“We found out she has a large tumor in the back of her head, and she had fluid buildup in her brain,” Jackson said.
At this time there have been no arrests or charges brought forth.
On March 27, 10-year-old Raniya Wright of Walterboro, South Carolina, died after a fight with a classmate.
The solicitor declined to press charges because a forensic pathologist determined Raniya had a rare birth defect, arteriovenous malformation, that caused her death.
My sincerest condolences to Kashala’s family and all who loved her.
