Today, actor and philanthropist, George Clooney and his father, Nick Clooney were arrested for protesting outside of the Sudanese Embassy. George led a protest today to call out war criminal, Omar Al-Bashir, to stop the violence and to allow humanitarian aid into the country.
“We are here to ask two very simple questions. The first question is something immediate and immediately we need humanitarian aid to be allowed into the Sudan before it becomes the worst humanitarian crisis in the world…immediately.” George continued, “The second thing we are here to ask…it’s a very simple thing…is for the Government of Khartoum to stop randomly killing it’s own innocent men, women, and children. Stop raping them and stop starving them. That’s all we ask.”
George’s father, Nick gave his remarks and immediately after he finished, he and George were arrested and lead to the police cruisers. Others arrested along with the Clooneys were former Congressman Tom Andrews; Congressmen Jim McGovern, D-MA, Al Green, D-TX, Jim Moran, D-VA., and John Olver D-MA; Martin Luther King III, NAACP President Ben Jealous; and Enough Project Co-Founder John Prendergast.
George Clooney was released from jail this afternoon when he “posted and forfeited” $100 bond.
