Both LeBron James and Dwayne Wade are questioning the fine, but no suspension for Serge Ibaka and his below the belt blow on Blake Griffin. Ibaka was fined $25,000 and had has flagrant 1 foul upgraded to a flagrant 2.
But Tuesday night, not thinking the fine was enough, Lebron tweeted “So explain to me the difference? My teammate gets a 1 game suspension and 150k+ taking away from him for his groin altercation #strangetome”
LeBron is referring back to earlier in the season when Dwayne Wade was suspended for one game when he inadvertently kicked Bobcats Ramon Sessions in the nether regions.
Wade even chimes in himself tweeting “All I can say is WoW….no pun intended but really….and I get suspended and lose 200 grand…#someexplainingtodo”.
Da Commish’s Take:
I can definitely see James and Wade’s point on this one. Ibaka blatantly and deliberately tried to stun Griffin’s family tree with one blow and got off with a slap on the hand compared to Wade’s suspension. But some have said Ibaka didn’t get suspended because the NBA didn’t want to hurt ratings for the upcoming Lakers/Thunder game on Tuesday night.
Now, I find that hard to believe. You may tune in to see Kobe, Dwight, Durant or Westbrook……but nobody’s ever said “Turn to the Thunder game, I gotta see my boy Ibaka tonight.” And to think the NBA would suspend Wade and not Ibaka for ratings purposes in silly.
