Georgia Judge Tosses Lawsuit Against Ellen DeGeneres Over ‘Titi’ Joke
A judge has tossed the lawsuit of the Georgia realtor who sued Ellen DeGeneres for making a joke out of her name on her award-winning daytime talk show.
In a segment called “What’s Wrong with These Signs?” Ellen showed Titi Pierce‘s real estate sign and pronounced her name as “Titty Pierce.”
Pierce sued Ellen for defamation and invasion of privacy claiming no one has ever made the mistake of mispronouncing her name in that fashion her entire life.
Unfortunately for Ms. Pierce, a judge ruled she had no case.
In the docs, the judge articulated exactly why Ms. Titi’s got no case:
“The letter ‘i’ in the English language can be pronounced in several ways. While Titi chooses to pronounce her name with “e,” there is nothing demonstrably false in pronouncing it with “i” as DeGeneres did.”
