#F8: F. Gary Gray Makes History As African American Director With Highest-Grossing Opening Weekend In Movie History
F. Gary Gray Makes History
What a time to be alive for F. Gary Gray!
After the incredible $532.5 million worldwide opening weekend of The Fate of the Furious, F. Gary Gray has scored the highest-grossing opening for an African American director in movie history!
This achievement comes on the heels of Gray’s history making N.W.A biopic, Straight Outta Compton, where he became the highest grossing black director for a rated-R film.
Oscar-nominated director Ava DuVernay took to Twitter to celebrate her friend with this tweet:
Kudos @FGaryGray for making black history today! $532 million worldwide on opening weekend. Through your lens. Bravo. pic.twitter.com/wDKMHGnOE4
