Carol Maraj Testifies In Jelani Maraj Rape Trial – Did She Help Or Hurt Her Son’s Case?
Carol Maraj Testifies In Jelani Maraj Trial
On Thursday, Nicki Minaj‘s mother, Carol Maraj, took the stand in Jelani Maraj‘s child rape trial and it’s unclear if she helped or hurt his case even more.
During her testimony, it was revealed that Mama Maraj sent a text message accusing her former daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Robinson, of setting her son up.
At first, Carol said she didn’t remember sending the text, but later admitted she had.
She also testified that during a ride to the courthouse for Jelani’s arraignment, Jacqueline hinted around to a payoff.
Carol recalled, “We had a little conversation. As we were getting out of the car she said, `It’s going to take a lot of money to get out of this one.’”
That’s not extortion – that’s attorney fees.
While on the witness stand, it was also revealed that Carol sent Jacqueline a text message encouraging her to keep the situation hush-hush.
“I don’t think you should give people details on anything,” the message said. “You don’t have to share your business with everyone who calls.”
Mama Maraj also testified that Jelani had a drinking problem.
“I knew he had a drinking problem,” she said. “I can’t say if he had a drinking problem during that time period.”
When it comes to the victim, Carol Maraj said, “I treated [the girl] like I would any child.”
She also noted she didn’t want Robinson’s kids to call her “grandma,” requesting they use “Miss Carole” instead.
Jelani Maraj is facing 15 years to life if he’s found guilty.
